What the table shows

The Reno metro area accounts for 1,580 of Nevada's 7,420 technician jobs, about 21%. Its median annual wage of 50,190 dollars is about 4% above the Nevada median of 48,290 dollars and about 1% below the U.S. median of 50,620 dollars. The mean hourly wage in Reno is 27.84 dollars (mean annual 57,900 dollars) and the median hourly wage is 24.13 dollars. A mean is pulled up by the highest earners, which is why it sits above the median.

How it was made

The figures come from BLS series for the occupation code 49-3023, pulled through the BLS public data interface in October 2026 for the May 2025 reference period. Employment is the estimated number of wage and salary jobs in the occupation. Wages are before taxes and exclude self-employed owners. BLS draws the Reno metropolitan area from its own definitions and the Census Bureau's, so its boundaries can differ from the ones used on other pages of this site.

Limits of the data

OEWS is a sample survey with margins of error, and it counts jobs, not people, so a person with two jobs appears twice. It covers wage and salary workers, not self-employed shop owners. The occupation is wider than transmission work; it includes technicians at dealers, general repair shops, tire shops and fleets. The table says nothing about any single shop, what a shop pays or what it charges. Wages are a labor-market fact, not a price list.

Why a transmission shop publishes this

Drivers often wonder who works on their vehicle and how large the trade is locally. A-1 Transmission has been in business since 1968 and says that each mechanic is "fully certified and licensed". The independent shop, dealer or chain guide explains the options, and the data hub lists the other tables.
